Indigenous Reconciliation in Fisheries

Fisheries are culturally iconic and of great economic importance to many Indigenous communities across Canada. The Government of Canada’s commitment to advancing the reconciliation agenda presents a timely opportunity for deeper consideration of what this means for the relationship between the government and Indigenous peoples in the fisheries, oceans, and maritime sector. The Public Policy Forum and the First Nations Fisheries Council (FNFC) will hold a series of roundtables throughout Canada in partnership with regional Indigenous organizations, subject-matter experts and other stakeholders to discuss the laws, policies and operational practices of Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard (DFO-CCG).
