Community Building: Comprehensive Reporting and the Parliamentary Committee/Department Relationship Report

On March 26th, 2001, the Public Policy Forum convened a dinner meeting in Ottawa, to provide an informal atmosphere in which to explore what needs to be done to enhance the relationship between parliamentary committees and senior public servants. Participants included a select group of federal deputies and assistant deputy ministers, as well as members of parliament. They were tasked with considering the relationship between them in the context of comprehensive reporting involving federal government policies and programs, broader societal indicators and analysis undertaken by other organizations. The objective of the discussion was to identify creative approaches to making comprehensive reporting more effective and meaningful to parliamentarians, the public service and Canadians.
