Bringing New Voices to the Table: Re-thinking On-reserve Housing in Canada
Bringing New Voices to the Table: Rethinking On-reserve Housing in Canada
The challenges and successes of housing on First Nations reserves are incredibly complex and involve numerous collaborators and contributors. This project specifically set out to hear from those living in First Nation communities, those who do not have a formal leadership role within their community and whose perspectives are simply informed by their day-to-day realities. The focus was on identifying Indigenous voices that are often unheard and under-represented.
The report begins by providing an overview of the outreach conducted to invite community participants and describes the engagement process used during the community roundtables and the technical table. It then shares key recommendations and themes from the community roundtables and the technical table, before presenting five recommendations for “next step” actions.
