Aboriginal Youth Collaborative: Feasibility Study
Public Policy Forum, 01/26/2012
From May to November 2011, the Public Policy Forum worked with leaders from the following organizations to explore the idea of creating a multi-sectoral collaborative focused on Aboriginal youth:
- Assembly of First Nations and its Youth Council
- Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami and its Youth Council
- J.W. McConnell Family Foundation
- Suncor Energy
- Social Innovation Generation @ MaRS
- Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada
The Aboriginal Youth Collaborative Feasibility Study confirms broad based support for developing a multi-sector collaborative that helps key stakeholders work together in new ways to empower and enable Aboriginal youth to fulfill their goals. The study summarizes key findings from interviews and roundtables with over 75 participants, including Aboriginal youth leaders and senior representatives from Aboriginal organizations, businesses, foundations, governments, and NGOs. Providing a basis for further action, the study also outlines a potential collaborative model and proposes next steps.
Collective efforts are underway to drive further progress in the months ahead. Specifically, a collaborative leadership table will be formed and a multi-day session will be held to establish its direction and initial activities.
