Public Service Leaders Survey

Where: Ottawa

Leadership and the role of senior management within the public service is an area of significant importance. It is critical to note that leaders within the public service work within a unique environment, requiring that they translate the vision of evolving or changing governments into policies and services for citizens, often within a political context. However, public service leaders also face many of the same challenges as their colleagues in the private, not-for-profit and other sectors. In order to better inform our study of public service leadership, the Forum conducted a series of interviews with 50 hand-picked Canadian leaders from the public, private, not-for-profit and academic sectors. We wanted them to describe their vision for the successful Public Service of the future, and some of the practical steps that can be taken to move towards that vision.
