Public Engagement: Giving Citizens, Communities and Stakeholders a Real Role

When: Thursday, December 11, 2008

Where: Toronto

Since 2007, the Public Policy Forum has given this seminar some thirty times across the country and around the world to promote a new framework of public engagement and share lessons learned from New Brunswick’s Public Engagement Initiative.

The seminar, facilitated by Dr. Don Lenihan, former Public Engagement Advisor to the Government of New Brunswick and current Public Policy Forum Chair in Public Engagement, focuses on three basic questions: Why are new approaches to public engagement not only desirable, but necessary?  What are they, how do they work and what makes them different from traditional consultation? How can officials use them to design engagement processes they need to work more effectively with citizens, communities and stakeholders?
