Public Engagement: Giving Citizens, Communities and Stakeholders a Real Role

When: Thursday, September 25, 2008 - Thursday, December 25, 2008

Where: Ottawa

This seminar was given over thirty times, across the country and around the world, to share a framework of public engagement and lessons learned from New Brunswick’s Public Engagement Initiative of 2007/2008.

The seminar, facilitated by Dr. Don Lenihan, former Public Engagement Advisor to the Government of New Brunswick and current VP Engagement at the Public Policy Forum, focused on three basic questions: Why were new approaches to public engagement not only desirable, but necessary? What were they, how did they work and what made them different from traditional consultation? How could officials use them to design engagement processes that worked more effectively with citizens, communities and stakeholders?
