Public Engagement: Giving Citizens, Communities and Stakeholders a Real Role

When: Thursday, September 25, 2008

Where: Ottawa

The seminar, facilitated by Dr. Don Lenihan, former Public Engagement Advisor to the Government of New Brunswick, current Public Policy Forum Chair in Public Engagement, offered a unique opportunity for members of the public policy community to learn about new approaches to public engagement that have been refined and tested through five pilot projects in New Brunswick and input from hundreds of public servants and elected officials working at all levels of government.

The seminar focused on three basic questions:  Why were new approaches to public engagement not only desirable, but necessary? What were they, how did they work and what made them different from traditional consultation? How could officials use them to design engagement processes they needed to work more effectively with citizens, communities and stakeholders?
