In 2008, the PPF held a national symposium exploring the interconnections between the evolving state of news media, technological innovations, and civic engagement among youth.

Panels and discussions were held on: citizenship in the internet age; the shift from mass media to personal media; and the generational differences in democratic participation.  By bringing together experts from various sectors and creating a space for intergenerational dialogue, the symposium examined the implications of changing dynamics for the role of news media, the practice of democratic governance, and the relationships among citizens.
