Mobilizing the Public: Designing Effective Engagement Processes
When: Monday, July 13, 2009 - 08:00 – Tuesday, July 14, 2009 - 15:30
Where: Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, Toronto
Since the fall of 2007 the Public Policy Forum has offered its half-day seminar on public engagement over 45 times to over 1000 public servants across Canada. This new two-day course deepens and extends that work. It provides a practical, learning-intensive look at key issues involved in designing engagement processes, from selecting participants to sharing accountability.
Topics:
- How public engagement differs from other public involvement processes, and why it matters
- How to deal with problem areas such as setting up a planning committee or selecting the participants
- Why and how the dialogue strategy must change, depending on whether you are engaging citizens, stakeholders or opinion leaders
- When to use online tools and what special opportunities and/or risks they raise
- How and why participants can "share ownership" of the report, action plan and responsibility for communicating the results
