Successfully implemented around the world, the cooperative business model is widely regarded as a sustainable community approach to delivering products and services while addressing socio-economic and environmental issues. With over 9,000 co-ops and credit unions across Canada, the cooperative business model plays an important role in driving innovation across sectors.

In recent years, Canada’s Public Policy Forum has led a number of initiatives exploring strategies to advance economic and social innovation in this country. Building on the momentum from the International Year of Cooperatives and the Quebec International 2012 Summit of Cooperatives, the Forum is convening discussions across the country to explore the political, economic, and social impact of cooperatives.

Innovation through Cooperation brings together leaders from the public, private, non-profit, and academic sectors to share perspectives on the current and future role of cooperatives in Canada. With the growing success of co-ops, the Forum believes the time is right to connect leaders within and outside the cooperative movement to identify opportunities for greater collaboration across sectors.
