CGA-Canada and PPF: Skills and Learning Roundtables

When: Thursday, March 27, 2008 - Tuesday, April 29, 2008

Where: Monteal, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Halifax, Toronto, St. John's, Sudbury

This roundtable featured discussions on the state and the future direction of skills training and learning in Canada. Given the dearth of national data and benchmarking on skills and learning strategies across Canada, this project gathered information on a regional basis from educators, business leaders, government officials, labour unions and industry associations to prepare a report on the topic. Several themes were explored, such as delivering ongoing workplace training, integrating and optimizing the skills of immigrants, including the Aboriginal population in skills and training programs, addressing intergenerational change and identifying the policy and funding gaps. The roundtable allowed participants-drawn from business, accreditation associations, educational institutions, municipalities, provinces, federal government departments, and non-profit organizations-to discuss these issues.
