Canada Research Chairs: Thinking Ahead for a Strong Future

2010 marks the tenth anniversary of the Canada Research Chairs Program. The program has revitalized the Canadian research environment, while attracting and retaining talented researchers to Canadian universities. The Public Policy Forum, in collaboration with the Council of Ontario Universities and the Canada Research Chairs Secretariat, convened close to 1,000 researchers and senior leaders from various sectors at a regional conference to showcase the achievements of the CRC porgram and the contribution of Canada Research Chairs to research on issues of importance to Canadians.

This regional conference featured:

  • Thinking Ahead: A look at what the future holds for Canada: a panel discussion among Canada Research Chairs.
  • research presentations and networking with graduate researchers and Canada Research Chairs from Ontario universities; and
  • thematic sessions:
Neuroscience: Will we ever truly understand the human brain?
Advanced Manufacturing: What will the next Industrial Revolution look like?
Aging: Living to 100: What are the implications for individuals and society?
Art, Technology and Society: The Brave New World of Communications: What's next?
Canada's Energy Future: What will Ontario's energy plan of 2050 look like?
Economy and the Environment: Can the environment save the economy?
Healthy Living: Is lifestyle the greatest cure?

This event was the first in a series of four conferences organized to recognize the Canada Research Chairs program. In 2011, additional events will take place in Vancouver, Montreal and Halifax.
