Breadbasket 2.0 Summit

When: Monday, June 17, 2013 - Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Where: TCU Place, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

With a growing global population, and increasing demands on food production from expanding middle classes in China and India, there is a serious need to explore food production capacity.

The Canadian Prairies, once known as the breadbasket of the world, will be essential players in this effort. To help meet the coming challenge, we need to explore the production capacity of this region, to understand how to increase it through innovations in policy and practice.

June 17-18, the Public Policy Forum, through the Breadbasket 2.0 project, convened a national summit in Saskatoon, SK to examine these questions.

The summit shared the results of roundtable discussions held in March 2013 in all three Prairie Provinces, and consolidated research findings of extensive framing efforts conducted by the Forum and its project partners. The leadership-level discussion at the summit laid out the strategic areas of consideration concerning future policy related to crop production and innovation in the Canadian Prairies.
