Aboriginal Participation in Major Resources Development Opportunities (Yellowknife)

When: Friday, August 31, 2012 - 08:00 - 10:30

Where: Yellowknife, NWT

While Canada’s natural resources sector is experiencing high levels of growth and new opportunities to develop and market products around the world, the success and viability of any major project will depend upon the ability of business leaders to work in collaboration with local communities, including Aboriginal communities, at an early stage of the process.

This summer, in partnership with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada (AANDC), in collaboration with Natural Resources Canada and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, the Forum is convening a  national roundtable series to explore opportunities and challenges to effective engagement of Canada’s Aboriginal population in the development of major resources sector projects. These roundtables reflect the themes of discussion highlighted on May 22nd in Ottawa at our multi-sectoral roundtable.

          June 8th: Calgary, AB
          Theme: Labour Market Development

          June 27th: Prince George, BC
          Theme: Community Readiness

          August 21st: Toronto, ON
          Theme: Financial Literacy and Financing

          August 31st: Yellowknife
Theme: Lessons Learned from the North

These roundtables engage a select group of leaders from Canada’s Aboriginal communities, natural resources sector, and public sector focusing on key questions of how we can improve Aboriginal engagement in these opportunities.

All events will be convened under the Public Policy Forum Rule, whereby all comments will be made on a not-for-attribution basis.
