The 2014 Federal Budget released on February 11 included a chapter on reducing barriers to internal trade. The Budget referenced the Public Policy Forum’s recent work in this area, including the Internal Trade Symposium convened in Ottawa in June 2013, and directly quoted from our report on key findings and recommendations emerging from this conference, Canada’s Evolving Internal Market—An Agenda for a More Cohesive Economic Union.

The Budget stated that “the Government will continue to pursue opportunities to revitalize the Agreement on Internal Trade in collaboration with provinces and territories, in order to strengthen the internal market for the benefit of Canadian businesses and consumers.”

The Forum is very pleased that our research and convening efforts have resulted in such a tangible impact on public policy.

On January 24, 2014, the University of Pennsylvania released its 7th annual Global Go To Think Tanks Index. The index is the result of an international survey of some 2,000 scholars, public and private donors, policy makers, and journalists who help rank more than 6,800 think tanks using a set of criteria.  The rankings are organized in categories such as geographic area, research focus, and special achievements.

Canada’s Public Policy Forum has once again ranked among the top 20 think tanks in our region, which combines Canada and Mexico. This marks the third year in a row that the Forum has earned a ranking on the Index. For the first time, the Forum has also placed among the Top Social Policy Think Tanks in the world, the Top Think Tanks to Watch in the world, and the Best Institutional Collaboration between two or more think tanks.
